There are two avenues we could take; well three, but one isn't really an option. I could either skip my graduation and go to his and possibly walk with him, with both our families attending his or he could skip his and everyone could come to mine (this is the one I don't really think is an option, for obvious reasons) OR we could each go to our seperate graduations, his parents and family go to his and my parents and family come to mine. This seems like the option I am leaning towards, (Joe is hoping I will get to walk with him) except there is another problem. If you knew my children and their relationship with my mom, you wouldn't need me to explain, but for those who don't know, let's just say where my mom is, my kids will be also. Meaning, that with her at my graduation, my kids will 100% want to come to mine as well and unfortunately, not because I'll be there. :)
So, you can see our problem. What's a girls to do? Is it selfish to want to go to my own graduation even if I do have the option to walk with him at his graduation? Or is it something I deserve to celebrate at my own graduation after these 3 long years? Or if I could walk with him, would the fun of walking with my husband outweigh the utter humiliation I would feel walking with people getting their doctorates enough to make it worth it?
I can't decide and I need opinions or suggestions. Believe me, I am all ears!!

Geoff had a classmate whose wife graduated with her undergrad and she walked with him in the law school graduation. It seemed to work out really well. They read her name too and said what she got her undergrad in. I think that would be a tough decision. For what it's worth I think I'd walk with Joe, you each made it possible for the other to graduate, they are both huge accomplishments, it might be nice to celebrate it together as a family. Congratulations on finishing your degree by the way! Where are you going to be posted after graduation?
I think I would go to my own? Let each of the family members go to each of their child's graduation. That's such a huge accomplishment, so yeah. I don't know- that's tough. Good Luck, glad it's not me. Wait wish it was me graduating :) Maybe someday!
Usually I have pretty strong opinions about things, but I don't lean more towards any of the options. I try to imagine if it were Paul and I in that situation (it is hard to imagine Paul and college together in the same thought :)). I think I would want to walk at my own, but I'm selfish like that. I don't know. Sorry!
Surprise, surprise but I agree with Janene. You guys made it possilbe together. The kids would have the memory of you guys graduating together. It could be real cool. I am too interested as to where you are being stationed. Neil just received orders and we will be off to Georgia (Ft. McPherson) at the end of May. Congrats on graduating. I know I couldn't go to school and have my family so your awesome!!!
First off, congrats.
Second, sorry about the yucky situation.
I would go to to your graduation and be with your classmates. You deserve your time in the spotlight as well.
Later you and Joe can share pictures and take one together!
I say walk together. It will be unforgettable! And then the family doesn't have to struggle with which one to go to. It may not be the perfect situation, but that's how life is. Just roll with it and do what's best for your family.
Monte and I were able to walk together. It was such a special day for us. We think back at graduation and remember being able to walk together and how neat that was. I think that it will be more memorable to you to be all together as a family and to complete together what you have all had to work towards and sacrifice. Good luck with your decision!
Walk together, fun memory for everyone. Where are you guys going in August?
so, where do i start? so much to congratulate you on! first, the pregnancy. awesome! was it planned? i'm not there yet. and the graduation. you are a rock star. i think you should do it together because everyone could be there together and you should not be embarrased at all. and kudos on the potty training. garrett goes on the potty before bath time, so i should start the process but he just turned two. pretty crazy to me. you have a full, wonderful life and i'm proud of you!
congrats on graduating!! Im not sure what i would do but if you do each go to your own you can have someone video tape at both and after you can share the graduation with each other by watching them as a family or privately together so you can sort of share each others' moment
If you were to walk with Joe, just think...you could be one of the most like-able people in a room full of Lawyers! =)
That is so awesome for both of you!! I would totally want to go to my own graduation...but with the kids it would be hard to have them not see mom or dad. Just suck it up and walk with Joe. How many couples get a chance to do that?! Congrats!! Having done the school/family thing at the same time, I have SO much respect for you getting it done. I will probably finish the same time as my oldest! Would that be weird for mom to walk with her kid?! =S
You go to yours, he goes to his, the kids go to yours (they probably won't remember much of it anyway) and the families divide. You need to walk for sure. You worked hard and being a mom as well - you need to walk!
Congrats Andrea! I am so excited for both you and Joe! If I were you... I think that although it would be fun to walk with my own class, I would choose to walk with my husband. I think it would be so cool to share that moment and for all of your family (his and yours) to be there for both of you. But...really you have to do what is in your heart. You have worked so hard to get to this point so you should do whatever feels right to you. Miss you!!
Congrats! You've worked hard and you deserve to feel spotlighted for your accomplishments. I say go to your own and throw that hat in the air! Have both of them taped and you can watch them both together on video as a fam.
I would definitely go to Joe's graduation. Having gone through 2 graduation ceremonies at BYU, they all seem the same - same long speechs, same long list of names read, etc. Sterling and I walked together when we got our masters (granted we had the same major
) and I would have been very disappointed not to see him graduate also. I don't think you will miss anything by not being at yours, but you will not miss seeing Joe and he will not miss seeing you if you go to his. By the way, hi. I haven't talked to you for awhile. Hope all is well!
