Wow...I can hardly believe that my little boy turned five on Saturday. When I think back to all that has happened since that exciting day, so long ago, (but not so long, really) I can't believe where we have been and where we are today. He was truly sent at a time when I needed him most; to be my saving grace while Joe was deployed and I was forced to pick myself up and carry on, being the best mom I didn't know how to be. He and I learned so much about each other that year and have a bond that reflects it. Although he can drive me beyond crazy some days, he knows just what to say to make me laugh and knows that a hug from him can melt my frustrations away. I love him so much!
Well, Luke's birthday was somewhat spread out over the last week and once again, I am going to have to try to sum up a weeks worth of activities into one post, because I can never seem to get on here the days that these things happen--so bear with me.
To begin, Jozlyn and Luke seem to have taken a bit of "Jazz Fever" from me and Joe. I can say this with confidence, because on a daily basis, they play basketball in the living room and fight over who is Williams, or Boozer, or Memo, ect. (all members of the Jazz-Jozlyn knows all their names, too!). It is hilarious hearing my little 3 year old girl's high pitched voice saying, "Luke, I get to be Boozer this time. You can be Deron Williams."
Well, Joe and I decided to harness this, by getting the family tickets to the Jazz game on Wednesday. Needless to say, Luke and Jozlyn (and me and Joe) were excited--as was Kate, sensing the excitement from the rest of us. The entire car ride up consisted of laughing, arguing over who was who and asking, "How much longer, Mom?" Once we were finally there, Luke stood wide-eyed gazing around at the arena he had seen so many times on television. We had pretty good seats, so Luke was able to see the players fairly well and could identify who each one was.....He was in heaven! The game was great-(not quite as involved as last game-see post below)-but a lot of fun. Kate got introduced to "Bear", the Jazz mascot and shook with fear at the sight of him. He was trying so hard to get her to say Hi to him, but once she started to cry, he hung his head and walked away. :)

Things were going great, the Jazz were winning and the kids were happy, until Jozlyn said, "My tummy hurts.." Ugh, my daughter has one of the weakest tummies of all time and those three words would have usually sent me straight to the bathroom. Still, today I am wondering why I didn't respond as such. Instead, I tried to get her to forget about it by standing up and dancing with her in the row. (Bouncing? Yeah, bad idea...) A few minutes later, I could see it in her eyes, that this was in fact, very serious. I thought about running to the bathroom, but changed my mind and whipped her around and faced her towards our seats and it was there that it happened. I think she may have thrown up everything from the last week. It went on forever, but thankfully the substance stayed within our seats (and in our diaper bag-ugh!). I say the substance, but not the smell. It may have been the most foul smelling vomit I have even smelled and by the looks on the faces of the people within a 15 seat radius, they would have agreed. It was awful. I finally ran her to the bathroom, washed us both down and did my best to remove the smell. Nothing worked. I felt like Pigpen, with this green cloud of stench surrounding me. Jozlyn, however, felt great and wanted nothing more than to return to where I was sure we were not welcomed. So, we hung back in the aisle and watched the game from there.
Jozlyn had lost her shirt in the fiasco, so was confidently hanging out in her lacey, pink undershirt. Thankfully, a row ahead of us had won free t-shirts and the guy giving them out had a few extra and we were able to score one! So, it was a Men's XL, but Jozlyn loved it! It was crazy, but we had a good time and we all got a good, much-needed shower when we got home.

Friday, Luke's birthday continued with his friend birthday party at the park near our house. It was not quite as eventful as a couple days before, but he had a great time and was so excited to get to have all his friends together at the same time. I had an eventful time making his cake, but was pleasantly surprised (shocked) with the outcome. Here are some pics of the day...
